About the Fair

A Perth County Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Spirit Since 1841

The Stratford Fall Fair, presented by the Stratford Agricultural Society, is one of Ontario’s oldest and most enduring rural traditions. First held in 1841, the fair has connected generations of farming families, community members, and visitors for more than 180 years. Despite Stratford’s evolution into a world-renowned cultural and tourism destination, the fair continues to honour the agricultural roots that shaped the region.

A Fair Rooted in Pioneer Farming & Community Growth

The Stratford Fall Fair began during the early settlement of Perth County, when the area was defined by forest clearing, new farms, and emerging village centres. Agricultural societies played an essential role in strengthening community ties, helping settlers improve livestock, share farming techniques, and foster a spirit of cooperation.

Early Stratford fairs featured livestock judging, field crop competitions, vegetable and grain displays, preserves, needlework, and demonstrations of everyday farm and homestead skills. These foundational traditions remain proudly preserved today.
