About the Fair

A Northern Ontario Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Spirit

The Timmins Fall Fair, proudly organized by the Porcupine Agricultural Society, is one of Northern Ontario’s most vibrant celebrations of agriculture, creativity, and community pride. Although the city of Timmins is widely known for its mining history, the fair highlights another essential part of the region’s identity—the rich agricultural activity, homesteading tradition, and rural culture that flourishes across the wide northern landscape.

A Fair Rooted in Northern Settlement & Regional Growth

The Timmins region grew through waves of settlement, forestry activity, and mining development in the early 20th century. Alongside these industries, a dedicated agricultural community emerged farmers, homesteaders, and northern pioneers who carved out productive land in a challenging but rewarding environment.

The Porcupine Agricultural Society helped support that developing agricultural community, providing opportunities to share knowledge, showcase livestock and homecrafts, and strengthen the connection between northern farm families and the wider public.

From its earliest days, the fair featured livestock judging, crop competitions, vegetable displays, preserves, sewing and quilting, and demonstrations of important homestead skills, traditions that remain central today.
