About the Fair

A Wilmot Township Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Spirit Since 1857

The New Hamburg Fall Fair, proudly presented by the Wilmot Agricultural Society, has been a cherished tradition in Wilmot Township since 1857. For more than 165 years, the fair has brought together farm families, neighbours, and visitors to celebrate agricultural excellence, creative homecrafts, and the enduring community values that define rural Waterloo Region.

A Fair Rooted in Early Farming & Village Life

When the fair first began, New Hamburg was a growing mill village surrounded by fertile farmland, thriving shops, and hardworking pioneer families. Agricultural societies were vital to the era, supporting livestock improvement, sharing farming innovations, and bringing rural communities together.

Early fairs showcased livestock judging, vegetables and grain, preserves, quilting and sewing, and demonstrations of essential homesteading skills. Many of these historic traditions remain at the heart of the fair today.
