About the Fair

A Proud Rural Ottawa Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Craftsmanship & Community Spirit

The Navan Fair, organized by the Navan Agricultural Society, is one of Eastern Ontario’s most respected agricultural traditions. Founded in 1946, the fair has grown into a cherished celebration of rural heritage, homecraft excellence, and community pride for Navan and the surrounding countryside within the City of Ottawa.

A Fair Born from Post-War Community Strength

The Navan Fair began at a time when rural communities were rebuilding, reconnecting, and seeking ways to strengthen local identity after the challenges of the Second World War. The Navan Agricultural Society, formed by dedicated residents, saw the need for a fair that would celebrate local agriculture and bring families together.

Early fairs featured livestock judging, crop displays, domestic arts, and demonstrations of rural skills. From the beginning, the fair served as a gathering place for farmers, neighbours, and volunteers committed to preserving the area’s rural heritage.
