About the Fair

A Lennox & Addington Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Craftsmanship & Community Heritage

The Napanee Fair, organized by the Lennox Agricultural Society, is one of Eastern Ontario’s oldest and most respected rural traditions. With a history stretching back to the mid-19th century, the fair celebrates the agricultural heritage, creative spirit, and community pride that have long defined Napanee and its surrounding townships.

A Fair Rooted in Ontario’s Early Agricultural Movement

The Napanee Fair began in the 1830s, during a time when agricultural societies were forming across the province to help support farmers, encourage innovation, and strengthen rural communities. The Lennox Agricultural Society was officially established shortly after, making it one of Ontario’s earliest.

In Napanee, a growing mill town along the Napanee River, the fair quickly became a major annual highlight, offering farmers a place to exhibit livestock, compare crops, and share new farming practices.

Early fairs featured livestock shows, grain competitions, produce displays, and homecraft exhibitions that reflected both the hard work and ingenuity of local families.
