About the Fair

A Proud Georgian Bay Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Craftsmanship & Community Spirit

The Meaford Fall Fair, presented by the Meaford & St. Vincent Agricultural Society, stands as one of Grey County’s oldest and most cherished rural traditions. With roots extending back to the mid-19th century, the fair honours the region’s deep agricultural heritage, creative craftsmanship, and strong community connections.

A Fair Founded on Early Rural Roots

The Meaford Fall Fair dates back to the 1850s, at a time when agricultural societies were the heart of rural Ontario. Farmers relied on fairs to share knowledge, compare livestock and crops, and strengthen ties with neighbouring families. Meaford, already established as an important shoreline community, was a natural gathering place.

Early fairs featured livestock competitions, produce displays, domestic arts, and farm demonstrations, all reflecting the determination and innovation of the early settlers who built Meaford and its surrounding townships.

Agriculture at the Core

Agriculture has always been central to the Meaford Fall Fair’s identity. The region’s fertile fields and multi-generation family farms proudly showcase:

  • Dairy and beef cattle
  • Sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry
  • Field crops, fruits, and garden produce
  • Rural crafts and farm-related handiwork

These exhibits highlight the expertise and dedication that define farming life along the Southern Georgian Bay corridor.

One of the fair’s greatest strengths is its homecrafts division, featuring quilting, needlework, preserves, baking, floriculture, woodworking, photography, and junior projects. These displays honour the creativity and domestic arts that have long been hallmarks of rural community life.
