About the Fair

A Lanark Highlands Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Pride Since 1889

The McDonald’s Corners Fair, proudly hosted by the McDonald’s Corners Agricultural Society, has been an enduring rural tradition in the Lanark Highlands since 1889. For well over a century, the fair has brought together neighbours, farm families, and visitors to celebrate agricultural excellence, creative homecrafts, and the strong community spirit that defines this scenic region of Lanark County.

A Fair Rooted in Pioneer Farms & Early Highlands Community Life

The fair began during a time when McDonald’s Corners was a thriving rural settlement surrounded by small farms, sawmills, churches, and local tradespeople. Agricultural societies played a vital role in strengthening early communities, helping farmers improve livestock, share new techniques, and build lasting social connections.

Early fairs showcased livestock judging, grain competitions, vegetables, preserves, quilting, needlework, and demonstrations of essential homesteading skills. Many of these time-honoured traditions remain central to the fair today.
