About the Fair

A Rainy River District Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Rural Craftsmanship & Community Pride

The Emo Fair, organized by the Emo Agricultural Society, is one of Northwestern Ontario’s most cherished rural exhibitions. With a history stretching back to the early 1900s, the fair remains a meaningful celebration of agricultural heritage, local craftsmanship, and the strong community spirit that defines the Rainy River District.

A Fair Rooted in Early Farming Communities

The Emo Fair began during a period when rural agricultural societies were essential in connecting farm families and strengthening agricultural knowledge. In a district built on mixed farming, forestry, and early homesteads, the fair provided an important annual gathering place.

Early fairs featured livestock exhibits, grain displays, homecraft competitions, and demonstrations of rural skills,  celebrating the accomplishments of settlers who carved out a living along the Rainy River.
