About the Fair

A Southgate Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Rural Community Spirit Since 1855

The Dundalk Fall Fair, presented by the Dundalk District Agricultural Society, is one of Grey County’s oldest and most cherished rural traditions. First held in 1855, the fair has celebrated the agricultural heritage, creativity, and community values that have shaped Dundalk and the Township of Southgate for more than 165 years. Generations of farm families and neighbours have gathered each year to honour the skills, spirit, and traditions that define this northern corner of Grey County.

A Fair Rooted in Early Rural Settlement & Community Growth

The Dundalk Fall Fair began during a time when settlers were steadily establishing farms, building log homes, and carving out communities across the highlands of Grey County. Agricultural societies formed to support farming improvements, encourage cooperation, and help strengthen rural life.

Early fairs provided essential opportunities for farmers to exhibit livestock, compare produce, demonstrate practical skills, and build community pride. These gatherings were central to the early social life of the region and continue to hold a meaningful place in Dundalk’s identity.
