About the Fair

A Bruce County Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Spirit Since 1887

The Chesley Fall Fair, presented by the Chesley Agricultural Society, is one of Bruce County’s most enduring rural traditions. Since 1887, the fair has played a meaningful role in celebrating agricultural heritage, homecraft creativity, and the community pride that defines Chesley and the surrounding countryside. For generations, farm families, neighbours, and volunteers have gathered at the fair to honour the rural traditions that continue to shape the region.

A Fair Rooted in Early Settlement & Rural Development

The Chesley Fall Fair began during a period of growth in Elderslie Township, when settlers were building farms, founding small communities, and transforming the Bruce County landscape. Agricultural societies were essential in supporting local farmers, promoting improved practices, and providing opportunities to share knowledge and achievements.

Early fairs featured livestock judging, grain and produce competitions, domestic arts, and demonstrations of essential farming skills. These gatherings helped strengthen local identity and fostered cooperation among rural families.
