About the Fair
A Haldimand County Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Spirit Since 1873
The Caledonia Fair, proudly presented by the Caledonia Agricultural Society, has been one of Haldimand County’s signature rural events since 1873. For more than 150 years, the fair has united farm families, neighbours, and visitors in a celebration of agricultural excellence, creative homecrafts, and deep community pride along the banks of the Grand River.
A Fair Rooted in Settlement, Agriculture & Riverfront Community Life
The fair began when Caledonia was a growing riverfront settlement supported by mills, shops, small industries, and surrounding farms. Agricultural societies played a central role in those early days, helping farmers improve livestock, expand knowledge, and strengthen community ties.
Early fairs included livestock judging, grain and produce exhibits, preserves, quilting and sewing displays, and demonstrations of the essential homesteading skills that shaped rural life. Many of these traditional elements remain proudly featured today.

Agriculture at the Heart of the Caledonia Fair
Agriculture continues to be the foundation of the fair, represented through a wide range of exhibits and competitions:
- Dairy and beef cattle
- Sheep, goats, poultry, and small livestock
- Field crops, hay, grain, vegetables, and garden produce
- Woodworking, rural crafts, and traditional homesteading skills
These displays honour the dedication and expertise of the farm families who have shaped Haldimand County’s rural character for generations.
The fair’s homecraft categories, including preserves, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, floriculture, photography, arts, and junior classes, celebrate the creativity and domestic traditions central to rural life.
Youth Engagement & Generational Strength
Youth involvement is a cornerstone of the Caledonia Fair. Through 4-H clubs, school exhibits, junior divisions, and hands-on agricultural learning, young people develop:
- Leadership and responsibility
- Practical farm and homecraft skills
- Creativity and confidence
- Agricultural literacy
- A strong connection to local heritage
Generational participation, where grandparents, parents, and children all exhibit—helps keep traditions vibrant and meaningful.

Led by Volunteers & Deep Community Commitment
The Caledonia Agricultural Society, supported by a large team of volunteers, works year-round to sustain the fair. Their dedication, preparing exhibits, maintaining fairgrounds, welcoming participants, and celebrating community heritage, reflects the strong civic pride that defines Caledonia.
