A Fair Rooted in Pioneer Farming & Early Village Life

The fair began during the early settlement of Paisley, a village shaped by sawmills, shops, farms, and its location at the meeting of the Saugeen and Teeswater Rivers. Agricultural societies played an essential role in rural life, helping farmers improve livestock, share knowledge, and build community connections.

Early fairs featured livestock judging, vegetable and crop displays, preserves, needlework, quilting, and demonstrations of the essential skills that supported pioneer homesteads. Many of these traditions remain proudly showcased today.

Agriculture at the Heart of the Paisley Fall Fair

Agriculture remains the cornerstone of the fair, represented through a variety of exhibits:

  • Dairy and beef cattle
  • Sheep, goats, and poultry
  • Grain, hay, vegetables, and garden produce
