About the Fair
A Hastings County Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Spirit Since 1903
The Madoc Fair, proudly presented by the Madoc Agricultural Society, has been a beloved rural tradition in Hastings County since 1903. For more than 120 years, the fair has brought together farm families, neighbours, and visitors to celebrate agricultural excellence, homecraft creativity, and the strong community values that define the Madoc region.
A Fair Rooted in Early Rural Life & Community Growth
When the fair first began, Madoc was a bustling village supported by surrounding farms, mills, shops, and mining activity in the broader region. Agricultural societies played an essential role in strengthening rural life, helping farmers improve livestock, share knowledge, and build community connections.
Early Madoc fairs included livestock judging, vegetable and grain exhibits, preserves, quilting, sewing, and demonstrations of essential homesteading skills. These beloved traditions continue to anchor the fair today.

Agriculture at the Heart of the Madoc Fair
Agriculture remains at the core of the fair, represented through a wide range of exhibits and competitions:
- Dairy and beef cattle
- Sheep, goats, poultry, and small livestock
- Field crops, grain, hay, vegetables, and garden produce
- Woodworking, rural crafts, and homesteading displays
These exhibits honour the resilience, skill, and dedication of Hastings County’s farm families.
The homecraft divisions, including baking, preserves, sewing, quilting, knitting, floriculture, photography, arts, and junior categories, showcase the creativity and domestic traditions that enrich rural life.
