SHINING A LIGHT ON LOCAL TALENTS
Performed at the Kinsmen Amphitheatre
Tuesdays July 21, July 28, and August 4
Over three Tuesdays in the summer we will be welcoming three local artists and companies to take the stage, showcasing the varied and immense talent in Eastern Ontario.
JOSIAH
Tuesday, July 21, 7pm
At the Kinsmen Amphitheatre
Originally co-created by Cassel Miles and Charles Robertson, and written by Charles Robertson
JOSIAH unfolds as a tapestry of history, illuminating Josiah Henson’s journey from the shadows of enslavement to the dawn of freedom in Canada. This solo performance highlights his transition turning hardship to hope. His story shines as a beacon; his legacy echoing across generations, igniting hope and inspiring change.
Clowns Reading Shakespeare
Tuesday, July 28, 7pm
At the Kinsmen Amphitheatre
Created by Kenzia Dalie and Panoply Theatre Collective
Clowns Reading Shakespeare is a family-friendly theatrical performance featuring a troupe of red-nosed clowns auditioning for a diva Director and her yet-to-be-determined Shakespeare show!
Laugh along with this troupe of eager clowns as they explore three of William Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, and Macbeth…to the best of their ability. The Clowns make each play their own and interact with the audience as they follow the unusual whims of the Director. Improv and mischief ensues, as the show must go on!
Whether familiar with Shakespeare or not, families and viewers of all ages are sure to laugh, cry, and cheer along as the Clowns ultimately prove that a focus on teamwork and staying true to yourself leads to wonderful art.
Echoes Down the River
Tuesday, August 4, 7pm
At the Kinsmen Amphitheatre
Created by Jessica de Bruyn
Every artist has a place where it all began. A place they can hopefully come back to that still feels like home. Built as a town hall, marketplace, and fire engine house, the Brockville Arts Centre has stood for over 175 years as the heart of the community. In Echoes Down the River, five beloved local performers weave together the history of the world-class opera house with their own stories from within its walls.
The show features a script written by Jessica de Bruyn (Elizabethtown-Kitley), direction by Seanna Kennedy (Elizabethtown-Kitley) and a cast of familiar faces: Joey Herbison (Brockville), Allison Hess (Elizabethtown-Kitley), Seanna Kennedy, James King (North Augusta), and Rebecca Rodley (Brockville). This is a love letter to the stage that raised us.
