About the Fair

A Celebration of Ontario’s Agricultural Past, Present & Community Spirit

The Summer Fair at Country Heritage Park is more than an event—it is a living tribute to Ontario’s agricultural heritage. Hosted on the grounds of one of Canada’s most significant agri-heritage sites, the fair reflects the stories, skills, and traditions that built rural communities across the province. Organized with the spirit of historic Ontario fairs in mind, the Summer Fair honours farm families, preserves knowledge, and connects visitors with the legacy of rural life.

A Fair Rooted in Ontario’s Agricultural History

The origins of this summer celebration are tied directly to Country Heritage Park’s mission: to preserve and share the agricultural history of Ontario. While many fairs grew organically from rural villages in the 1800s, this fair grew from a desire to showcase the broader story of farming life, how communities lived, worked, innovated, and fed the province.

From its earliest years, the Summer Fair has focused on heritage-based demonstrations, agricultural traditions, and the skills that shaped rural communities. Rather than recreating a single town’s fair, it presents the collective experience of countless Ontario fairs of the past.

Preserving Rural Traditions & Skills

Country Heritage Park’s Summer Fair highlights the knowledge, craftsmanship, and practices that defined life on Ontario farms for generations. Through heritage demonstrations, historic farm equipment, agricultural exhibits, and hands-on interpretive activities, the fair shows the evolution of farming life from the 1800s through the 20th century.

Exhibits have long featured:

  • Traditional farming techniques
  • Historical domestic arts and homecrafts
  • Early dairy, grain, and livestock practices
  • Tools, machinery, and agricultural innovation
  • Interpretive demonstrations that connect modern audiences to rural life

These heritage elements allow the fair to stand apart as a celebration of farming culture in a uniquely historical context.

A Fair Sustained by Stewardship & Community Commitment

Volunteers, heritage interpreters, agricultural families, and community groups play a central role in keeping the fair’s spirit alive. Their dedication ensures that traditional knowledge isn’t lost, and that Ontario’s farming history continues to be shared with new generations.

Many of the contributors, exhibitors, demonstrators, and interpreters—are multigenerational farmers or descendants of early settler families. Their participation reflects a deep connection to the land and the agricultural traditions that built the province.

About the Park

Country Heritage Park: Ontario’s Living Story of Rural Life, Farming & Innovation

Located in Milton and surrounded by rolling farmland, Country Heritage Park is one of the most unique cultural destinations in Ontario, a place where the province’s agricultural history is preserved, celebrated, and brought vividly to life. More than a museum, it is an immersive heritage village, a storytelling landscape, and a tribute to the agricultural families whose labour shaped the province.

A Place Where Ontario’s Rural Story Lives On

Country Heritage Park began as a bold idea: to preserve and showcase Ontario’s vast agricultural past in a way that future generations could see, touch, and experience firsthand. Its founders understood that the story of Ontario is deeply tied to farming—homesteads, mills, barns, machinery, food production, rural traditions, and the communities built around them.

Today, the site features a remarkable collection of heritage buildings, agricultural artifacts, and interpretive spaces that offer a journey through more than 150 years of Ontario farm life.

  • A country schoolhouse
  • Heritage machinery sheds

Each structure tells a distinct chapter of rural Ontario’s past, revealing how farmers lived, worked, raised families, and built communities.

Agriculture at the Heart of the Park

Country Heritage Park sits in the heart of agricultural Ontario, and its exhibits highlight the evolution of farming from pioneer homesteads to modern agriculture. Collections include:

  • Early tractors and machinery
