About the Fair

“The Best Little Fair in Canada” — A Proud Tradition of Agriculture, Community & Rural Spirit Since 1863

The Carp Fair, presented by the Carp Agricultural Society, is one of Ontario’s most iconic rural exhibitions. Since 1863, the fair has celebrated the rich agricultural roots, homecraft excellence, and vibrant community spirit of Carp and the surrounding Ottawa Valley. Known as “The Best Little Fair in Canada,” it remains a cherished symbol of connection between rural heritage and modern community life.

A Fair Born from Early Valley Farming Traditions

The Carp Fair traces its beginnings to a time when farming was the backbone of daily life in the region. Settlers throughout Huntley Township and the rural outskirts of Ottawa gathered annually to exhibit livestock, compare crops, exchange knowledge, and strengthen community ties.

In its early years, the fair was a vital meeting place for farmers and families, showcasing skills essential to building successful homesteads. Livestock competitions, produce displays, and domestic arts were at the heart of these early exhibitions.
